Flow Factory Presents Grooves of South at Dance East

By

Grooves of South is a fusion of South Asian folk traditional and contemporary street dance and will be performing at dance east on Saturday 17th October at 12 noon.

Grooves of South is a dynamic fusion performance bringing together the rhythmic traditions of South Indian and South Asian folk dance with the energy and physicality of contemporary Hip Hop and street dance. The piece is rooted in the belief that these forms often experienced in entirely separate cultural contexts share a common language of rhythm, community and expression, and that placing them in genuine dialogue creates something new.

Grooves of South is a Hip Hop dance showcase celebrating the unique style, energy and culture of Kerala. It’s about how Hip Hop is lived, inspired and expressed in the South,  the way our community absorbed it, shaped it, and gave it back something new.

Kerala is a small state in southern India, known as God’s Own Country, with a cultural identity as rich and vibrant as its landscapes. When Hip Hop arrived in Kerala, it didn’t replace what was already there; it became part of it. Grooves of South is that story, told through movement.

The piece will premiere at DanceEast YouthFest on 17 October 2026 in Ipswich and is part of DanceEast Youth Fest
