Theatre Royal Bury St. Edmunds – Sunday 12th April

A guest review by Wendy Boother
Cre8 continues to grow with their first Musical Theatre Showcase presented at Theatre Royal, Bury St Edmunds.
Seven musicals were featured, each with three selected songs and some dialogue to set the scenes. The confident opener was Legally Blonde, and I knew then we were going to be well entertained. My teen companion particularly enjoyed Beauty & The Beast and Wicked, as she was more familiar with those songs. My favourites were Guys & Dolls and Oliver! We agreed that The Great Gatsby and Matilda rounded off a great selection of genres and musical styles for a balanced programme.
The whole cast was involved in all seven showcases, and I liked how the costumes for the lead characters were often simple add-ons but clear and effective. The choreography fitted well with the dance styles of each musical.
It was very easy to spot several future stars in the making. This is a great opportunity to give plenty of local talent a chance to shine. I do hope this company of young performers gets to give us another great night’s entertainment again next year.
