New Wolsey Theatre’s Spring 2026 season has been launched, with the announcement of a brand new production celebrating the people, places and pioneering spirit of Suffolk and the East of England.
From 17 April until 2 May, New Wolsey Theatre presents the premiere of the musical Caroline – the first production from the recently formed East Anglian Touring Consortium, dedicated to creating and sharing bold East Anglian stories with audiences across the region. Radio Caroline, moored just off the Suffolk and Essex coast, revolutionised public radio forever. Powered by the sounds of the Sixties Caroline is a bold, funny and heart-filled new musical by Vikki Stone about love, ambition and finding the courage to turn up the volume on your own voice.
The 2026 Spring season is also packed with edge-of-the-seat drama and heart-warming comedy. Highlights include Charles Dickens’ David Copperfield, with 3 actors delivering 19 larger-than-life characters, Torben Betts’ comedy-thriller Murder at Midnight starring TV favourites Jason Durr, Susie Blake, Max Bowden and Katie McGlynn, Wendi Peters as Florence Foster Jenkins ‘the worst singer in the world’ in Glorious, a thrilling retelling of H.G. Wells’ War of the Worlds using model worlds, camera tricks and projection, and an adaptation of Malorie Blackman’s best-selling Young Adult fiction Noughts & Crosses, exploring racial and social divides. All this of course runs alongside a packed programme of one-nighters spanning family, stand-up comedy, poetry, music, dance and drama.
Douglas Rintoul, Chief Executive/Artistic Director of New Wolsey Theatre, said: “With the New Wolsey Theatre’s reputation for actor-musician musicals, we couldn’t be prouder to launch this initiative with an exhilarating new musical about one of the most iconic Eastern stories: the rise of pirate radio in the 1960s.”
