Isabelle Casement & Noah Fox in rehearsals for Twelfth Night at New Wolsey Theatre (c) Robbie Sliwka
Shakespeare’s comedy Twelfth Night will play at Ipswich’s New Wolsey Theatre from Thursday 14 to Saturday 16 August, in an accessible adaptation performed by members of the New Wolsey Theatre Young Company. Tickets are free for anyone aged 22 and under with the aim of introducing more young people to the power of Shakespeare’s language, the thrill of live performance, and the work of the New Wolsey Theatre’s talented young theatre makers. All other tickets are £12.
Rehearsals are currently underway for the production, which follows the success of the New Wolsey Theatre Young Company’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream last summer. This return to the mainstage with Shakespeare’s turbulent rom-com promises passion, poetry – and a man in striking yellow garters. Viola is in love with Orsino, Orsino is in love with Olivia, Olivia is in love with Cesario (who is really Viola in disguise), and Sir Toby Belch is in love with… himself. What could possibly go wrong?
Tony Casement, Director of Twelfth Night and Head of Creative Communities at the New Wolsey Theatre said: “It’s funny, there’s live music and it’s all about love, what more could you want? If that’s not enough, the young people involved in bringing this play to life have worked incredibly hard and they deserve to have their work seen. So please come and support some very talented young people by watching them perform a great piece of theatre.”
Noah Fox, actor in Twelfth Night: “To be able to perform on the main stage at the New Wolsey Theatre is an amazing experience. I’ve not performed on a massive stage before. I’ve done it at schools or smaller theatres in Ipswich but to finally perform on a much bigger stage is something that I’m going to treasure for a long time and take with me in the future.”
Isabelle Casement, actor in Twelfth Night added: “We’re treated like a professional company performing at the New Wolsey Theatre. There is a proper tech, there are proper rehearsals, and it’s so fun just because it feels so real. It would mean so much to have a full audience there because we’ve put so much work into it and I think people are really going to enjoy it.”
To book, visit: The New Wolsey Website or call the Box Office on 01473 295900 or book in person at the theatre. Recommended for ages 11+.
