“A Flea in Her Ear” by George Feydeau has been described as “perhaps the greatest farce ever written”, and The Deben Players present a new version translated by David Ives this May.
The play revolves around a series of misunderstandings and mistaken identities, as every good farce should, leading to hilarious consequences. Rochelle suspects her husband of infidelity. To test his loyalty, she enlists the help of her friend, Lucienne. They send him a fake love letter from a supposed lover inviting him to a rendezvous at the Frisky Puss Hotel. Things take a chaotic turn leading to a whirlwind of confusion and comedic mishaps. The play is renowned for its rapid-fire dialogue and physical comedy.
Taken from a review of the play:
“The action goes forward with such speed, from start to finish, that the actors and the audience cannot catch their breath for even a second”
Revolving beds, seduction, duels, running, hiding, brawls, screaming, cold showers, drunkenness, doors, trousers, suspenders and every kind silliness unfold at breakneck speed in this riotous piece of classic theatre.
Don’t miss this hilarious farce with a cast of 21 from the award-winning Deben Players.
A Flea In her Ear runs at The Seckford Theatre from 14th-17th May. To book tickets visit the Deben Players Website
