Christmas Ghosts & Other Stories at Two Sisters Arts Centre – Review

Enter Harry’s Bar, Black and White Productions latest show at the Two Sister’s Arts Centre, Christmas Ghosts and Other Stories.

It’s Christmas Eve and Marvin has taken Sally on a second date to the old abandoned Victoria Inn at Felixstowe Ferry, but Sally was expected a romantic evening of being wined and dined and can’t believe she’s been dragged out by YouTube sensation Marvellous Marvin to look for ghosts.

Phil Cory as Marvin

When she starts seeing the apparitions but Marin can’t the ghosts join together to make sure their Christmas Eve traditions aren’t spoilt.

This is such a fun, daft laugh of a show with famous writers rubbing shoulders with Suffolk smugglers and German spies. There’s also plenty of tradition Suffolk ghostly tales woven in, such as Black Shuck, The Green Children of Woolpit and The Wild Man of Orford, all adapted for the piece by writer and director Suzanne Hawkes.

Suzanne Hawkes as Granny Newson and Alan Dix as Bassy

As with other Harry’s Bar shows this is a cabaret with music and song interspersing the narrative and stories, and it’s a real ensemble piece for the actors, musicians and singers. because of that I’m not going to single anyone out but say instead that they all compliment each other beautifully and well done to:

Gordon Fudge, Phil Cory, Virginia Betts, Steve Roche, Thomas Haigh, Dennis Bowron, Suzanne Hawkes, Alan Dix, Bill Stoddart, Paul Stone, Stephanie Stoddart and Bryony Quainton.

Steve Roche as Henry James and Thomas Haigh as MR James

If you’re looking for a very different Christmas show that will get you in the festive spirit, and give you the distinct chill of a seasonal ghost story or two mixed with a lot of silliness and laughs then this is the one for you.

Christmas Ghosts and Other Stories at the Two Sister’s Art Centre Trimley St Mary is on Thursday 5th December and then again from Tuesday 10th – Thursday 12th December – all performances at 7.30pm
