The Bridges of Madison County: A Musical Journey by The Gallery Players

The roads we travel …. the doors we open …. and the bridges we dare to cross ….

The Bridges of Madison County is a sweeping musical romance of desire and sacrifice based on the best-selling novel by Robert James Waller.
After marrying an American soldier to escape Italy at the end of World War II, Francesca builds herself a home in Iowa, raising two children and settling into a steady but unremarkable routine. The path of her future seems destined. Then an unexpected fork in the road causes her to question everything she had come to expect from life. Robert, a charismatic photographer, turns his truck into the long drive to her farmhouse asking for directions, awakens her passion and changes her life forever……….

Already adapted into a much-loved film starring Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood, Robert James Waller’s romantic novel is now a stunning Musical. With a gorgeous Tony Award -winning score by Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years, Parade) and a moving book by Pulitzer Prize -winning playwright Marsha Norman (The Color Purple, The Secret Garden), The Bridges of Madison County is a ravishing story about the choices we make for love and the eternal question … what if?

Steve Taplin who has directed the piece said, ‘The Bridges of Madison County has been an extremely rewarding project to bring to the Studio. Love and passion are not age defined emotions, so it is a mystery as to why there are not more depictions of such an all-consuming love between people over the age of 40, and certainly not in musicals, making this tale all the more worth telling.’

The Bridge of Madison County by The Gallery Players is on from Monday 30th September to Saturday 5th October at The Gallery Studio Theatre, St Georges Street, Ipswich IP1 3NF
