Experience Welcome to Serene at New Wolsey Theatre: 30th & 31st August

BYMT (British Youth Music Theatre) premieres Welcome to Serene, a new musical written by Bethany Tennick (composer) and Iona Ramsay (writer) – winners of the 2023 New Musical Theatre Award.

With inspiration drawn from Dr Seuss and Tim Burton, Welcome to Serene holds up a mirror to the strangeness of our society’s response to existential threat, through folk music, song and storytelling.

Welcome to Serene takes you into the weird world of the small town called Serene, along with its zany inhabitants. With daily avalanches of sand burying everything at ground level and threatening their existence,, the residents rely on ‘The Machine’ sucking in sand from the beach and spitting it back into the ocean. But not everything is as simple as it seems. As the tides rise and the sand piles high, Serene may be on the verge of the greatest catastrophe it has ever faced. Will The Machine be ready?

Hannah Benson, Director said “I’m thrilled to be directing 36 exceptionally brilliant young people in the whimsical, urgent, and truly magical new musical ‘Welcome To Serene.’ Audiences will embark on an epic journey into the lives, joys, and tribulations of the inhabitants of Serene. With plenty of surprises in store, this vital and beautiful piece of new writing promises to captivate, entertain and inspire change.”

Welcome To Serene is at the New Wolsey Theatre on 30th & 31th August at 2.30 pm & 7.30 pm Tickets: £13 – £16 full price / £13 concessions
