Made In Dagenham – Opening in Bury St Edmunds

Tuesday 14th – Saturday 18th May

It’s been 56 years since the women of the Ford plant in Dagenham went on strike for equal pay and now BSEODS are proud to present their 2024 production of the hit musical Made In Dagenham. With thrilling music by David Arnold and an hilarious script by Richard Bean, Made In Dagenham is based on the award winning 2010 film.

The show follows the lives of the women and their families as they deal with the trials and tribulations of combining industrial strike action with busy home lives, set against the backdrop of the oppression and misogyny of Britain in the 1960s.

Rita O’Grady is the lead character and head of the strike who, upon hearing that the men in the plant will be getting a pay rise because they are considered “skilled labour” and the women are “unskilled”, lead her co-workers out to the picket line. As well as this she must deal with problems at home, with her apathetic husband, and children’s issues with school.

Running against the women on strike is the industrial might of the Ford Motor Company and a beleaguered Prime Minister Harold Wilson and his Secretary of State Barbara Castle. As the strike goes on the women explore their own stories as we see more of life. Will Rita manage to save her marriage and obtain equal rights for women across the UK?

Director and Choreographer Dan Moore and Musical Director Sophie Parry have been working tirelessly to put on this exciting production, and the talented cast have all pulled together to make this show a great success and a wonderful nights entertainment.
